19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former trainer Cervara.
Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from that period of 2023.
The win also means he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.
His counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.
Yet the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.
Moutet saved four early-game chances in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
